The Northern Rockies Working Guild (NRWG) was founded in the mid-1980s by a group of woodworkers in Montana’s Gallatin Valley. The group consists of both professional and hobbyist woodworkers and woodturners. What brings everyone together is a love of woodworking and a desire to share ideas and knowledge with other like-minded individuals.
We meet at the Bozeman Senior High School wood shop on the second Tuesday of each month, from September through May (June through August are summer break months). Meetings start at 6:30 pm and typically consist of a brief discussion of club business, a show-and-tell session of items made by club members, and a demonstration of a technique or method done by one of the club members. We have also brought in professional demonstrators such as Clay Foster, Graeme Priddle, Jimmy Clewes, Al Stirt, David Nittman, Johannes Mickelsen, Anthony Harris, Trent Bosch, Rudy Lopez, and many others.
The philosophy of the Northern Rockies Woodworking Guild is to bring together people that have an interest in woodworking, regardless of skill level, so they can learn from each other. The Guild is also dedicated to raising awareness of woodworking within the community.
Membership Benefits:
- Education: Local and Regional woodworking enthusiasts give regular demonstrations at our monthly meetings. We also bring in national and international woodworking professionals for special events sponsored by the Guild.
- Information Exchange: Members enjoy the opportunity to share experienced, ideas, and knowledge, and to build friendships with other woodworkers in the area.
- Club Library: An excellent variety of woodworking information, such as books, magazines, and videos are available for Guild members to check out.
- The Guild is an affiliated chapter of the American Association of Woodturners (AAW).
- Dues are $25/year and are collected at the beginning of each year. The year follows the school year, which starts in September and runs through June. During the summer months, we have held ‘Shop Tours’ where members are invited to visit shops of other club members
